As you may have read we went to Jason & Jenns a couple of weeks ago when they prepared a delicious Mennonite meal. Now it was our turn, we had home made chicken & leek soup, roast lamb & mint sauce or roast beef, yorkshire pudding with roast potatoes, new potatoes, carrots, sweet corn and broccoli and for desert it was hot apple pie with ice cream.

Had a day at home today and spent some time in the garden but it was way too hot to be working. We all ended up indoors with the air con turned up high.
Gary had booked us a table at Cherry Hill in the evening, he knows the owner and a few of the staff, especially some of the waitresses!! It was probably the best meal we have had since my mum & dad came to visit and worth the trip out there, http://www.cherryhillestate.com/

Went back to "The Forks" today and took one of the guided water bus tours on "The Assinaboine" and "Red" rivers. It was on this tour we discovered that there is a "Scots Monument" in Winnipeg, http://www.winnipeg.ca/Services/CityLife/HistoryOfWinnipeg/HistoricSites.stm.

Decided to have some friends round last night for some food and drink, there were 30 of us altogether. It turned out to be a great night but paying for it today.
Took a drive up to Lockport and Selkirk today. While in Selkirk we visited "The Marine Museum of Manitoba" http://www.marinemuseum.ca/
On the way back we went into Winnipeg for something to eat and ended up in an excellent Indian restaurant called "The Ivory" http://www.ivoryrestaurant.ca/ where the welcome, service, food and price was first class.

Friday night Adrian lit one of his fires and we all went round there for the evening
On Saturday my Dad and I went to Steinbach Mennonite Heritage village, http://www.mennoniteheritagevillage.com/, while Sue and my Mum went shopping. Notice the flags that were flown in the schools. The windmill is a working replica of the types that were used at the time.

I didn't get many miles this week because I have sent my passport to Immigration and can't cross the border without it. At first I thought I was going to have to take the week off because I couldn't go to USA but Hytek have been able to keep me busy with local collections from farms and elevators.
I now have next week off to spend some time with my Mum and Dad and return to work on July 1st.

Today was a lovely summer day with temperatures around 20c. Took a drive to St. Malo Provincial Park which has two sandy beaches and loads of camping.
On the way back we passed through Landmark. This lovely little town is only 20km north of Mitchell and geographically is equidistant from the west and east coasts of Canada.
I am back in work tomorrow for a few days before taking a week off.

On Saturday we took my Mum & Dad out for a drive around the local area where they eventually got to see some deer. We then had lunch in Steinbach and went to Niverville Fair http://www.nivervillefair.com/ It was a bit breezy and we had a couple of showers of rain but we didn't let it spoil our day.

We went and got more photos taken today for immigration and sent our passports off to The Canadian Consulate at Los Angeles.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUE
Today was Sue's Birthday and we also got our passport requests from CIC. This means we have now been accepted for permanent residency. All that remains for us to do now is wait for a couple of weeks till we receive our passports back then leave the country and be accepted as permanent residents on our return. It has taken about 16 months in total from applying for work permit to get to this stage and only 11 months since I landed here in Canada.
We also went to Jason & Jenn's for supper. They had prepared a traditional Mennonite meal which was superb and really tasty. Jason showed off with his flower arranging skills as seen in the photo above.

Saturday night my Mum, Dad, Sue, Craig and I all went to Steinbach Firefighters Country and Western Festival. All the proceeds went to the fund for the new fire hall and Cancer Research. It included a hot supper and 5 Country & Western singers. There were over 1000 people there in an outdoor marquee. It went on until well after 2.00 in the morning, so I was told.
